What is a Staycation?

For the purpose of this research project we define staycation as;

A staycation is when a person, and/or a group of people, stays within a short distance of their home while participating in touristic activities commonly enjoyed by visiting tourists.

The Quest To Determine The Value Of A Staycation In 2020

With the current global travel restrictions in place, are staycations growing in popularity? The typical vacations are pretty much a no go at least for the Summer of 2020 and possibly into the Fall. The tourism industry seems to be taking a really hard hit. Owner/operators are contemplating permanent closures of their businesses. In some cases, they already have.

In Atlantic Canada, the tourism industry accounts for a hefty chunk of our economies. In New Brunswick specifically, the situation is dire. The majority of the New Brunswick tourists are typically drawn from Quebec, Ontario, and the United States¹. Even with the Atlantic Bubble initiative launched on July 3rd, this doesn’t help New Brunswick tourism much, if at all. Or does it?

So, this brings up some questions that I am sure at least some of the local tourism industry would be interested to know as well.

Will people be going on a staycation in 2020 in lieu of the standard vacation abroad? What is the value of a staycation? Are we ready for bold adventures yet?

These are the types of questions you can help me better understand by completing this short survey. I plan on writing a blog article where I will share results with the public. If you would like to receive a direct link to the results article when it is published simply provide your email address in the newsletter section at the bottom of this page.

Please feel free to share the link to this questionnaire as the more people respond the clearer the big picture becomes.

Thanks, your insight is appreciated!
